FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)

Why should I go to check-in on Friday night if it is not mandatory?
All teams are encouraged to go to check-in on Friday night for several reasons:

  • We would prefer that everyone check-in on Friday night just in case there are any paperwork problems;you will have some time to get them fixed! However, if you choose to check your team in on Saturday morning PLEASE make sure that all your paperwork is in order. The last thing we want to do is have to excuse a player and/or team from participating because of incorrect paperwork. Managers who choose to check their teams' in on Saturday are taking a risk.
  • The sites that host the events are run strictly by volunteers so they are staffed accordingly with Saturday morning being primarly used for setting up fields.  There is limited volunteer staff available to do check-in on Saturday morning.

Can I invite guest players to play if some of my players are out of town? No, teams must compete with ONLY those players who were rostered to their team for the Spring 2008 season.  Absolutely no guest players will be allowed to participate.

If my coach, assistant coach, manager or trainer does not have an Adult Participation Pass, will they be allowed to be on the team sideline?
STYSA rules require that every adult interacting with players clear a background check.  The Adult Participation Pass serves as confirmation that this requirement has been met.  All adults must have the bright green Adult Participation Pass.  The status of each adult rostered to the team is also designated on the team roster.  Only eligible adults will be allowed on the team sideline.

If my coach, assistant coach, manager or trainer does not have a coaching license will they be allowed on the sideline?
STYSA Rule 3.1.16 requires that all coaches obtain a coaching license within one year of beginning to coach.  Coach is defined as coach, assistant coach, manager, trainer or any adult who works with the team.  All adults listed on the rosters of teams reported by the Association as advancing will be compared to the coaching license database.  If the individual’s license level is recorded in the Affinity program, it will be reflected on the team roster.  Coaches who have a license but it doesn’t appear on the roster should fax or email a copy of the license to the State Office no later than Tuesday, April 29th in order that the roster can be updated prior to rosters being forwarded to the Tournament Coordinator.  Coaches having obtained a license but don’t have a copy should fax or email the following information to the State Office by Friday, April 29th, so that their license can be researched and updated – name, address, drivers’ license number, expiration date, license level, date and location of the clinic taken.  Coaches who do not have a license will not be allowed on the team sideline.

I am the manager but I am not listed on the roster and do not have an Adult Participation Pass, what is my role?
Adults who do not have an Adult Participation Pass and/or a coaching license will need to remain on the parent sideline.

Who should be listed on the official STYSA roster?
All adults who play a role with the team and who wish to be on the team sideline should be included on the official team roster. Remember four (4) adults per team will be allowed on the team sideline during games.

What if I don't have a copy of my Penalty Point Report?
STYSA rules require that all teams bring a copy of the report showing all cards received by players and/or coaches.  If a copy is received by the State Office, it will be provided to the Site Coordinator.  Teams arriving without a copy of their report and having no report on file with the Site Coordinator, will be required to contact the appropriate person in their Home Association to arrange for a copy to be sent by fax or email to the hotel or the Site Coordinator. The Site Coordinator will confirm with the District Vice President as to the length of time the team will be allowed to obtain the report.

What if I disagree with the points recorded on my Penalty Point Report?
Any questions regarding penalty points recorded for players and/or coaches should be resolved prior to arrival at the District Tournament.  Tournament Coordinators will not have the ability or time to verify the accuracy of the report issued by your Home Association.
